Winter Compilations

Some of you might remember that I held an end of summer compilation back in September.
Now with leaks and big acts being held back I figure its the best time for another one! They cant silence a mix tape =)

I know in parts of the world winter has been well under way but here in Toronto snow is nowhere to be seen, this leaves me missing the snow and all the winter fun! So what I want from you guys is 8-12 tracks of cold, emotionless, desolate winter chill.

If that's too kvlt for you feel free to send in any music that has been gracing your ears this winter. Keep to a theme or a random mix, just make it good cause I will post them all and let the viewers vote!

If you suck at the photoshop and cant make a comp cover than I will make one for you no problem.

I will give you guys 1 week to send them in. So next Saturday February 4th will be the end. Have fun!

Stoner rockers from Slovenia sent this material in. Im trying to get a bunch of posts done before work so I cant do a full review like they wanted but upon first listen it brought forward strong memories of Black Tusk, just minus a bit of sludge. Its some good tunes for sure.

The Hoax Program is a hardcore/rock’n’roll/stoner rock band from Ajdovscina, Slovenia. The band started out as an old school hardcore band Low Punch in 1997 but renamed to The Hoax Program after changing musical direction in 2007. They put out two releases - ‘Lost Songs, Forgotten Melodies’ in 2008 and ‘II’ in December of 2011. Members of The Hoax Program are also active in other groups such as Elodea, Iamdisease and Real Life Version.

They hail from Memphis and have played shows with a bunch of great bands, The Sword, Red Fang, Skeletonwitch etc. I've never been one to classify music in genres, I stick to wiki and last fm for that, only thing I can say about these guys is that they play great fast paced music. Dawn Over Zero is a Hard Rock band from Austin, Texas. This isn't brutal metal, its rock that I could easily hear on the radio. They have obviously found some sort of success already and I wont be surprised if they find even more. These are some catchy tunes.

Hyne is a stonerrock band from Hamburg, Germany, founded in 2008. Heavy droped tunes, droning bass and mighty drums mark the path of the giant, that's the german meaning of the band's name in a different spelling. This combo sounds just like a full throttle trip through the desert with a Mustang, or in their case maybe more like a BMW on the Reeperbahn.

With that being said all 2000+ of my posts are now dead. If we travel back a year or more then there might be some rapidshare posts left but really whats the point.

I re-built the chairs after google took it down, I had my links, it wasn't too hard but now completely starting from scratch re-uploading everything to a file host which will probably do the same....

Despite the fact that 'Iconoclast Dream' has a lot of ideas that sound similar to other things the band has already done it still works and even if some ideas are repeated maybe once or twice too often; the overall feeling you are left with is this is a mercurial album and possibly their most important statement so far as a 'doom-band.' This is the kind of record that shakes your innards and makes your bones hurt long after it is all over and done with. It also leaves you asking yourself; where can the band go from here? Pombagira have indeed reached a peak with 'Iconoclast Dream.'

I don't follow newly released music as much as the other team members so my list won't be as extensive. Without further ado, here it is.

1. Ramshackle Glory - Live the Dream

This very heart felt folk-punk, with extremely elaborate arrangements for the genre, is the newest project of Pat "The Bunny" Schweiss. A brief selection of his work is elsewhere on Angrychairs. His early stuff was more abrasive and had a very self-destructive, nihilistic outlook. His personal growth (it was the first thing he did after getting out of rehab earlier this year, I'm pretty sure) is manifested in the core Live the Dream. I have a lot of respect for the bunny for refusing to write anything but the most honest music. The overall lyrical tone is more optimistic, but retains the highly oppositional outlook. So vote November 2nd if it seems right to you,Or don't vote if you think it just holds us down, Just tell me what we're gonna do on November 3rd,To make sure there's no government left to elect two years from now. Fuck yea. The five-piece consists of acoustic guitar, accordian and saw, banjo and tambourine, and piano, drums, horns, noise-boxes and more.

The hardest thing about this album is that there is one song on it that is so incredible it sort of makes the rest seem kind of weak, so I'm posting that here for sampling. 2. Zomby - Dedication

Almost. Zomby got famous as an eccentric dubstep producer, and managed to be one of the only people keeping the '05 - '07 era dubstep alive. Much of his work, however, is much closer to IDM. Dedication is Zomby realizing his potential as a creator of forward thinking experimental dance music, where a simple medium synergizes with complex arrangements. There may only be one song that even slightly resembles traditional dubstep. This is a very emotionally evocative album, that was written for a recently deceased friend of Zomby's. Things Fall Apart features Panda Bear from Animal Collective.

3. SBTRKT - s/t

Another album for y'all to hate. It's just awesome, combining elements of house, dubstep, jungle and pop. In an almost obnoxious display of talent, each song has and was written for a different vocalist, and manages to be incredibly varied without being at all disjointed.

4. Omega Massif - Karpatia

I am not a huge fan of Post-Metal. I'll spare you an essay and just say I find most of it to be an unfortunate perversion of the post-rock ethos. This album is a beast though, delivering heavy hitting doom seamlessly intertwined with an apocalyptic drone. I'm not even sure what to say about it, and I think it's already on this blog. But if you missed it the first time around, don't mess up again!

5. Psychedelic Horseshit - Laced

More lo-fi, noisy garage rock. This album isn't as out there as Magic Flowers Drone, which is elsewhere on Angrychairs. With the exception of I Hate the Beach--an incredible 7-minute long psych epic mocking Wavves. That one is crazy and the most remarkable on the album. The rest is no worse than MFD which pretty much puts it up here by default.

While I don't listen to "new" music per se, I am always after music that is new to me. To that end, I present two of my most significant personal discoveries of the past year.

Charlie Parker & Dizzy Gillespie

The sublime, adventurous and heartfelt jazz of Charlie Parker and Mr. Gillespie delivers an endless stream of fiery music that seems to posseses life, and remain new every time I listen to it. This recording of All the Things You Are is incredible. More well known performances of it are wonderful, mellow, drawn out and emotional pieces, powerful, but only 3 minutes long. This one is 7 minutes and much more upbeat, with the same catchy hook but more frantic and less meditative. It's gripping. Enthralling. Hypnotizing. It's almost unnerving the way it sometimes teeters on the edge of falling apart, yet never actually does.

B-Thong - From Strength to Strength

B-Thong was a swedish first-thrash-than-stoner-band, founded 1990 and disbanded 1998.
This album, From Strength to Strength, released in 1997, marks their change from thrashy metal to a more stoner-rock sound, as new singer Ralph Lennart influenced their overall sound to that direction a lot.
Cutting, harsh and dirty riffs, melodic refrains and nice tempo changes from downbeat to fast-pacing drums make this record the best soundtrack to grab your motor bike and speed up!
Influenced by bands such as Pantera, Kyuss, Monster Magnet or Prong, they surfed the same 90s wave like Mary Beats Jane, Gurd, Karma to Burn or Mindfunk.

They can be described best with the words of Peter Stepek:

Abigail Williams has never stuck to one standard sound, from their early deathcore to some black metal next they added some symphonic atmosphere and now on their latest release they seem to have taken a leap through time. Raw and lo-fi this is a very 'kvlt' release and may very well establish some new fans for the band yet will more than likely turn some followers off.

Although some of my future posts might not excactly cover the term "metal", I´ll try to provide you some intense 70s/80s/90s music.

The first impression counts, so I´ll offer you one of my favourite bands, Only Living Witness (OLW) from Boston Massachusetts, one of the most underrated bands in history. The band was formed in 1993, releasing their debut album Prone Mortal Form. One of my all-time top 10 album of the last centuries is their second release Innocents from 1995.
OLW combine heavy riffing, versatile drumming and Jonah Jenkins´ awesome voice to a big and heavy monster. Not evil, not badass, but a driving force in time of needs...
The sound of this record is direct and raw, the songs are to the point.

This band never got the attention, they deserved, as they split shortly after this release. Jonah Jenkins voice can be heard in projects such as Miltown, Milligram or Raw Radar War.

10, Ulcerate - the destroyers of all

this band are a technical death metal band from new zealand,the band who are keen supporters of doing it all by themselves,the album was recorded mixed & mastered by the drummer,he even had a hand in the artwork,this is no normal sounding death metal band though.
this is the bands 3rd full length,as withe previous album,the band are moving further away from pure death metal in to more experimental,atmostpheric places,the guitar work is far less about riffs,the drums still blast & shift in a jazzy technical way,but the guitars don't.

There are some great albums that I did not manage to fit into this list here, such as the albums by Flight Of Sleipnir and Wolves In The Throne Room, but I still believe that this list is pretty good. In this exquisite and technical record, Memfis showcase an incredibly big amount of influences, ranging from old school Hardcore to full-on Prog Metal and then some electronic ambient and tribal rhythms. Dormition's Top 10 of 2011

Lets get one thing clear, 2011 was a gnarly year for music, and regardless of what I listed and what was missed, this year provided a shit ton of albums that made this a year we won't soon forget, and one that will be hard to top. I originally had a top 20, but decided to dwindle it down to just 10. Of course this lead to cutting out a bunch of great albums, but I wanted to focus on the ones that actually stuck with me and gave me more than just a "Wow, that sounds cool!" reaction. Anyway, 2012, you have some big shoes to fill. Now without further ado, here are my picks for the top 10 albums of 2011...

10. Spaces - Nothing Exists but Atoms and the Void

Hands down, my favorite instrumental album of the year goes to Brooklyn based rockers, Spaces. A blend of post/progressive-rock and experimental nuances, they take all the highs of bands like Russian Circles and If Theses Trees Could Talk and combine it with their celestial touch to produce an album that is both beautiful and moving. This album flows so smoothly from track to track, you’ll find yourself getting lost in its intricate tranquility.

09. Uneven Structure - Februus

I tend to think of Uneven Structure as TesseracT's bigger brother. Their sound is similar, but Uneven Structure take a more darker and heavier approach to their music. They create vast landscapes of ambient sounds that overlay and wrap around thick, chunky riffs, to give the listener one hell of an incredible journey from start to finish. Februus took over 2 years for it to finally be released and it was worth the wait, and while it doesn't grab you on your initial listen, give it some time and you'll start to grasp the beauty of this album. I believe our fellow heavy blogger Gein said it best in his review: "Februus is a living, breathing behemoth of a record that gives listeners a reason to believe in a genre that’s becoming incredibly derivative, while also paying respect to the art of production." I couldn't agree more.

08. With Words - Cagebound

Hailing from Chicopee, Massachusetts, this five piece outfit has breathed life into the post-hardcore genre, and not by re-inventing it, but by sticking to the tried and true formula and releasing one of the most aggressive EPs of this year. Simply put, the entire demeanor of Cagebound is extremely angry and pissed off, and in its 21-minute runtime, it manages to display so much passion that you can’t help but listen to it and feel what this band must have felt when writing these songs. Each track just permeates with their blood and sweat, and while sharing similarities to that of a bands like Converge and The Chariot, this EP manages to achieve what a lot of other bands could only hope to do with a full-length. It's a bittersweet affair though, as Cagebound is With Words final album, with their career coming to an end on December 11, 2011. Well, at least they went out on a high note.

07. Ringworm – Scars

Scars is Ringworm's fifth full-length album, and if you're already familiar with these guys, then you know what to expect. With the production complementing the music’s raw and aggressive nature, Scars is easily one of the top hardcore albums of the year, so much so, that it made it into my top ten. It’s rare and refreshing to see and hear a band of this magnitude retain everything that made them what they are, and Scars is a metallic hardcore masterpiece, with its nice dose of thrash and a bit of groove thrown in for good measure. So, with a bit of nostalgia for early 90′s metal (with certain moments resembling that of Slayer), Scars is an enjoyable listen that will evoke metal heads and hardcore kids, both new and old alike, to bang their heads to these destructive and aggressive tunes.

06. Last Chance To Reason – Level 2

I wasn't completely enamored by Last Chance To Reason's debut album, but Level 2 took all my worries for their new album and smashed them to pieces. This album is a beautiful mix of synths, jazz grooves, blast beats and odd time signatures. I'm also a sucker for concept albums, especially those that actually tell a good story and portray it well through the music, and Level 2 does not disappoint on that front. In fact the album is so smooth with it's transitions, the entire flow of the album is one long track. From the wide range of vocal techniques of Mike Lessard, to the technical and catchy as hell instrumentation from the rest of the band, Level 2 is their magnum opus. Time will tell if LCTR can top this beast of an album.

05. TesseracT - One

Last year, TesseracTs EP took my number one spot. This year, they dropped a few pegs, but in no way does that mean One isn't as great. For the most part, it still contains the mouth foaming, jaw dropping tunes from the Concealing Fate EP, but also a handful of new TesseracT tunes that are as equally impressive. I'm not as big of a fan of djent as I used to be, then again I was never a rapid fan to being with, but for some reason, TesseracT just blows my mind. Their music is just smooth, clean and presented in such a grandiose way, the end result is ear-gasmic. But what really pushed this album to my top ten, is solely based on what I still feel is the greatest song of the year, "Eden". That song is so goddamn powerful. I know Elliot Coleman has taken over the reins as their frontman, and while he is a solid vocalist, his rendition of "Eden" just doesn't compare to when Dan Tompkins was at the helm. I can only wait with bated breath for new material to get a definitive opinion on the change of singers.

04. Trap Them - Darker Handcraft

Was Darker Handcraft worth the wait? Short answer, of course it was. Trap Them haven’t lost their touch at all, having crafted (no pun intended) an album worthy of keeping them at the top of the hardcore/crust scene. This is easily their angriest, frenetic and most evil album of their career. Darker Handcraft goes straight for the jugular as the opening track “Damage Prose” quickly assaults the listener with the ferocity of guitarist Brian Izzi, the rapid drumming of Chris Maggio, and the hardcore/punk-infused vocals of Ryan McKenney. Each album of theirs is a sonic force of music that’s furious, dark and raw, and their latest, Darker Handcraft is no different.

03. Touche Amore - Parting the Sea Between Brightness & Me

This isn't your standard hardcore album full of chants and tough guy attitude, in fact it's the opposite. The only vocals you hear come from Jeremy Bolm, and that's it. Between the music and the voice of Bolm, you can sense the high amount of emotion brought forth by both these parties. Parting the Sea Between Brightness & Me will not win anyone over on the first listen, in fact I was hesitant upon my first play through of it. It wasn't that I disliked it, far from it, it just needed time to sink in to be fully appreciated. At just over 20 minutes, this album keeps things short and to the point, with no added filler or fluff. They come in, make their point, and then move on. The factor that will either make you love this album or hate it is the lyricism. Bolm has the ability to convey truth through his words, with his shouts being the hammer that bashes them into your head. Parting the Sea Between Brightness & Me is a powerful album, without being overly heavy or overproduced. This album is what music is all about.

02. Leprous - Bilateral

It took some time for me to listen to this album, and I could kick myself right now for not getting to it sooner. It didn't hit me right away, a few songs grabbed me, but overall it didn't "wow" me. It was only after a few spins of the album, listening to it all the way through, that it really began to grow on me. After reading fellow heavy-blogger Noyan's review on Bilateral, I've come to see just how right he was in the diversity of this album. It blends the characteristics of bands like Opeth, Tool and Dream Theater, but at the same time Leprous still have a sound all their own. It's a progressive metal masterpiece, and an album I'm glad didn't slip under my radar.

01. Unkind - Harhakuvat

It's as if I already knew this album would be my number 1 pick only after a few listens. Finland’s Unkind are a metallic hardcore/punk band with a d-beat and crust foundation, and rather than just being another run of the mill hardcore band, Unkind display why they are different. Their latest album, Harhakuvat, hits hard on an emotional level as its dark and ominous tone becomes a dirge for ones inner psyche. The album runs shy of the forty minute mark, but the albums eight tracks make it seem as though it’s much longer. This is achieved by them layering atmosphere on top of atmosphere as each individual track continues the unrelenting nature of the one that preceded it. Unkind have made quite a strong statement with Harhakuvat. While perhaps not as widely known as fellow bands in the same scene (at least here in the states), they have taken a unique stab at this style of music and the outcome is a breath of fresh air in what can easily become a stale and stagnant sound. Other than Trap Them’s Darker Handcraft, this is easily one of the best hardcore/crust-punk albums to not only be released this year, but in a very long time.

This year had some big releases that I ultimately was disappointed in. Looking on other blogs and seeing various top lists I realized 90% of them picked the same god damn albums, were they good choices? I wont argue them but I will say that 2011 had so many hidden gems that totally deserve more credit. My list includes a couple of those gems, the rest are just what I found myself listening to more and more. If you dont like it, send me your top list and we can both open our eyes to more music!

11) Pentagram- Last Rites Label wanted me to take it down. Sadly I cant put it up again.
I passed on this album for a couple months after its release after being disappointed with the new ventures of other bands from their era. Though only 3 of the tracks are new with the others being from their golden days, it did bring Bobby Leibling and Victor Griffin together again which is what really made this album amazing.

10) All Pigs Must Die- God is War Label wanted me to take it down. Cant put it up again.
This album just destroys, fast paced and full of anger there is no other way to listen to it than on full volume.

09) Rhapsody of Fire- From Chaos to Eternity The band asked me to remove it the first time I posted. Ill honor my word.
Im not a hater of genres, I give them all an equal chance and power metal seems to get shit on the most, this album will force the shit back inside of the haters. From blistering solos and drum beats, to the cliche evil "black metal" screams this album is a journey that you cant help but feel part of. Plus Christopher Lee narrates it! Wonder if that's why he decided to make that tragic album...

More people should listen to these guys, Its the perfect fusion of doom and folk with clean and raspy vocals. The only guys that do it better than Flight of Sleipnir are Agalloch who didnt have an album this year, but this album is more than enough to fill that void.

Ahh Alestorm, my fondness for you may be too high. Ill be honest this album wasnt as good as their previous adventures but I found a new love for it after seeing them play it live. Yes its cheesy, yes it shouldn't be taken seriously and yes its absolute fun! Just wish they would of played Death Roes of the Terrorsquid at the show.

06) Graveyard- Hisingen BluesThe boys in the band asked me to remove it the first time around.
Sweden is responsible for a whole slew of amazing bands, Graveyard being one of the best. A great sound of 70s hard rock and psychedelia with a modern day stoner rock tinge, its a great mixture for the kids of today who werent around for all the rock of years past. (myself included)

05) The Black Dahlia Murder- Ritual Sadly I cant re-post this album, their label was none too happy with me last time.
This album got rave reviews all across the internet, now I do agree it was one of the better albums of the year (why else put it on this list) I dont agree that it is one of their best albums. I find myself going back to Nocturnal more and more.

Perhaps one of the bigger surprises for me was this album, It's been a long time since Machine Head were in their prime and I was expecting the worse. The album hits in the right places, its heavy, dark, powerful and a great comeback for the band.

I was beyond impressed with their first release and the only disappointment with dwellings is that it had to end. I read a review that said Cormorant is a history of metal encompassing styles from every era and a lot of genres and I couldn't agree more. You have your doom, your death, your prog, your thrash all woven into something beautiful.

When it came out I said it was gonna be on my year end, didn't think it would hit number one. Obviously my list is of personal taste and not popular vote or highest ranked. Forever Abominations blew me away on first listen and still does today. Im a thrash kid at heart and the heavier it is the better it is. Skeletonwitch takes the thrash philosphy and adds the right amount of black atmosphere.

1) Hell- Human Remains Another one that got me a sexy legal action notice. Sorry guys.
This would of been number one on my list had it not of been made 20 years ago. If memory serves correct (too lazy to google) This is a new attempt at material that was too extreme and genre defying for the 80s heavy metal movement. Human Remains is what I would call a rock opera. Its entertaining from start to finish and has all the atmosphere and power of a theatrical show. Though the vocals tend to turn some people off I find no problem with them and am glad that Hell finally gets to showcase their material from so long ago.

Not much to say about Tom Waits, as you all probably know he isn't metal but at the same time he is harder than metal. With his whiskey soaked voice he has had many dark songs full of gloom and sadness and many others at the opposite end. There were many releases this year that I loved that were not metal, so many in fact I could do another top 10 list but I will just leave it with Mr Waits.

Closing Note

Hopefully you all understand why I cant post all of the albums. There are reasons why Angrychairs has lasted while so many other blogs have gone under. When I get a takedown, a legal action, a label request, a death threat (seriously) I listen. At the end of the day all these bands still need to make a dollar so I hope everyone still supports the ones they love.

Nowadays the easiest way I find an album is good ole google just search "Black Dahlia Murder Mediafire" and 9 times out of 10 you will have some sort of direct link come up. So use that trick to find the albums I cant supply you.

11. Russian Circles - Empros

I always wondered what would happen if Russian Circles turned evil and had a black metal vibe to their hypnotic skullcrushing tunes. And now i don't need to. Here it is, Empros! This album has been on repeat for ages this year and the only downside is the production. I know it's a bit more of a black metal feel, but Russian Circles production was always super tight and they just recorded this in TR00 KVLT STYL3 and it just sounds like you're listening to this through your neighbours wall.

10. City And Colour - Little Hell

After Alexisonfire sadly disbanding early this year, i guess this is the only way you'll be hearing Dallas from now on. This album brings a full band into the fold as opposed to his normal 1 man singer/songwriter and the whole thing seems a bit odd, at first. However after it's grown on you it's a solid album and has some of the best lyricism this year.

You probably haven't heard anything like this album, ever. It's a unique piece by Tim Hecker, it's like the music is melting infront of you, distorted and wavering like a black and white TV going out of tune, the simple chords and melodies being shaped by noise as if they're bending time. This album is what it would feel like to be the only human being on earth and to walk through earth alone as buildings crumble and fall infront of you. In slow motion. You can get lost in this.

6. Tombs - Path Of Totality

Tombs are a 3 piece band from NY. This album for me has to be the most dense and dark out of the lot, primal riffs, shoe-gazey harmonies, face smashing dark drums and even some groovy sludgey riffs. This album for me is the quintessencial post-metal release this year and i'll say no more! This album is mean.

5. This Will Destroy You - Tunnel Blanket

A lot like the Russian Circles scenario, i wondered "WHAT IF THIS WILL DESTROY YOU, USED THEIR SUPER POST ROCK POWERS...FOR EVIL?" And this time, THEY DID. And what an album is it! This is one of the most absorbant albums this year and i think i must of heard it 50 times. The whole thing blew me away, your brain is a tumour and this album is the cure. It's like getting your skull massaged with horrible and beautiful noise.

4. The Antlers - Burst Apart

After releasing my favourite album of all time Hospice in 2009 (Why wasn't it in my albums of the decade? I hadn't discovered it then.) The Antlers have finally come out of the woodwork and cracked on with another relase. Hospice was critically acclaimed and considered a cult masterpiece, the downside of that is of course that expectations are WAY high and they decided to stray away from the concept of Hospice and aimed for a more selective release. This one featuring tracks that stand alone away from concept aswell as keeping to The Antlers melancholy and down-tempo style. Very enjoyable album, for those that haven't heard The Antlers, be sure to check them.

3. Altar Of Plagues - Mammal

Another atmosphere heavy black metal album in my list, no surprises there! A lot of people ask me to recommend some 'refreshing' black metal bands after their Darkthrone binge has long gone and the days of Mayhem and Burzum have seemed stagnant, i normally tell people to get onto this band. Irish Atmospheric Wizards; Altar Of Plagues. The thing about this band is not only have they got beautiful production, excellent concept of structure and pace....but they just play like the world will end tomorrow. This 4 track album is a solid one and recommended for anyone who wants their Black Metal a little less by the book.

2. Mastodon - The Hunter

This album had the highest expectation going, this is the band that topped my 'top 50 albums of the decade' list. Each album is boasted to be different than the last...So i was wondering what it would be like. It's got a retro feel to it, its a beginners guide to metal, it's a rock album on steriods, it's a prog-riffed masterpiece and it's just Mastodon. Whether you're a die hard metal/Mastodon fan or new to music like this, this album can take your 'good music virginity'. Ace album!

1. Wolves In The Throne Room - Celestial Lineage

First of all, lets get this out of the way. US Black Metal does not suck, if you think that, you're a chin stroking basement dweller from Sweden or some shit. I've seen a lot of hate aimed at American BM and this is the band i always shove in the faces of the non-believers.
This album is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the aggression. As much about the tension and density before the throttling ear assault. It's the way it brings you up before it throws you down on the earthy ground and smashes your face with the almighty force of mother nature. Listening to this album is your souls equivalent of easing yourself into a boiling hot tub of water after being encased in dirt for 12 days. Cleansing, burning, reedeming. I love this album to death.

Here was have a unique monster. If you've heard Upsidedowncross (from which half of Adolf Satan comes), you sort of know what to expect. Otherworldly, alienated, strung out vocals from Larry Lifeless, heavy doom riffage, and the occasional faster hardcore influenced section. This album has a unique atmosphere of its own, without resorting to cheap tricks and gimmicks as doom bands have been known to do since the early '90s. You know Johnny Rotten? You know that band, the Sex Pistols? This is what Mr. Rotten moved onto after realizing the Pistols had become pawns of the corporate whores and capitalist pigs, and idols to a legion of unthinking drones. This early statement in Post-Punk is more hard hitting than anything TSP ever did. Fast, three chord riffs are replaced by intense, three chord dirges with hints of dub and other experimental elements. The album's opener, "Theme" is a 9 minute trip into the mind of self-proclaimed doomed man. The thing that keeps your head afloat amidst the sea of groaning, jagged riffs is the repeated scream/chant: "I wish I could die."

A trio from New Zealand that plays pummeling, sludgy powerviolence.

Damn, I must listen to some UG shit because this is yet another release I can find barely any information on the internet about. I got the date from the file tags so it may not be right. The music consists of really fucking HEAVY doom sections, kind of like a spacier eyehategod type deal, juxtaposed with really fucking FAST grind, like Siege or early Napalm Death. The best immediate point of comparison would be Man is the Bastard but I'd say these guys nail a different vibe that is more internally tortured than externally enraged. The music is spliced with samples that seriously fucking enhance the listening experience, of people screaming in physical and emotional pain. The album opens with a thick, slimey riff being played under a nihilistic clip of a scam artist who rips people off with fake drugs. It needs to heard, that description doesn't do it justice.

Breach were formed in sweden in 1993,they were a hardcore band on their first ep,but gradually changed they're sound over 4 more albums & an ep,they started to encompass more slow moving parts & passages,building on the song,using more rythmic ideas,they're 3rd & 4th albums are an example of this.
getting comparisons to neurosis,amongst others,if anything the band were a precurser to bands like cult of luna,who in turn,formed from a hardcore band,breach split in 2001,the band refoormed in 2007 for a show,but smashed they're instruments up after the show,making people believe it would be they're final show.

the band split in 2003,they reformed in 2007 for a charity show for they're producer j robbins son at the black cat night club,they did a secoond date due to high ticket demand,the band reformed again in 2010 to play some shows in support of the reissue of they're 3 rd album,but stated they will not be writing any new material,just taking it day to day.

juno were a post hardcore,post rock band from seattle washington,they formed in 1995,split in 2003 & reformed in 2006 for some benefit shows,then went they're separate ways again,they released 2 full length albums,4 singles including a split with dismemberment plan.
they kept the same line up apart from the original bassist left before the second album,nate mendel of foo fighters played on the second album,but did not tour with them,the split was amicable,with all the members going in different direction artisticly.

More folk-punk coming at ya, this time a duo from Phoenix, Arizona consisting of an upright bass and acoustic guitar. Guest musicians abound though, resulting in a full sound. It's full as hell even when it's just the two of them. Seriously, you've got to check these guys out. If you think folk-punk is too abrasive or simplistic to a fault, they just might change your mind. The Ghost Mice half of the split might actually be stronger than the AJJ side, so definitely check that out especially if you dug Captain Chaos. The newest album, Knife Man, is different. There's electric instruments (OMGWTF) and a whole lot more variety in song writing.
